Perimeter (Collaboration with Moira Gavin)

2006 3 mins, Video.
Part 1 of 3. Temple Meads Train Station, Bristol

Perimeter explores the edges/borders to Temple Meads from the point of view of surveillance cameras positioned at the entrances and exits to the site.

We wanted to convey the textures and layers of the location through the sound track. A contrast between forgotten entrances, the Victorian gates/ railings/ with the new ticket entry machines both framed in a surveillance monitor.

The surveillance footage is intercut by moving shots skirting the station boundary – fringes of the city – a mix of new development/industry and residential. In the first piece of work it’s not obvious that it is a station. Uncertainty over the location of the piece in a sense mirrors the historic decline of the stations status.
